We had the pleasure of having Ellen & Ron Spergel speak with us today!

Ellen, a Master Gardener, along with Ron, created a gardening program at Grandview Elementary School. The students, who lovingly refer to them as Grandma and Grandpa, are learning far more than gardening.  Very cool!

But, would you believe, we forgot a picture?  sad

So much more than gardening! 2017-10-31 04:00:00Z 0

Our guest speaker this morning, Elizabeth Santiago, the Executive Director of the Center for Safety & Change, spoke with our club this morning about their programs, services and challenges.
The Center assists victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as providing education to help empower victims --- and to help prevent future victimization.
We were enlightened by her presentation.

One of the goals of our President, Alexandra, over the next two years is to secure a Peace Fellow applicant, preferably from within the Rockland law enforcement community.

As the proverbial first step, she invited her good friend and Rotarian Peace Scholar, Captain DF Pace of the Philadelphia Police Department to share his experiences with us this morning.

A Peace Scholar applicant can apply for a Masters Degree in Peace & Conflict resolution or a Certificate in same.  (Please ask us to explain.)

You can download a brochure from our website (download files section).   Once you review the brochure, please message us if you would like to know how you might become eligible for this amazing opportunity --- at no cost to you! Please include your phone number, as there is far too much information to relay via messaging.

We hope to hear from you!

Alex and Nick did a joint presentation, talking about all of the good that our Foundation donations have done locally, nationally and around the world.
Rotary Direct forms are now available on our website (see "Download files").
And, by the way, you don't have to be a Rotarian to donate.   smiley    Please ask us how!

Our friends and fellow Rotarians, Dorothy Filoramo and Ryan O'Gorman, spoke with us this morning about their El Salvador water project - a partnership of the Pearl River Rotary and Dominican College.

"Whatever the size of the group, Ryan and I are pleased to present the Water Project story. Just letting someone know that our neighbors live is such sub-standard conditions, build awareness of the global mission of Rotary International." ~ Dorothy Filoramo

Let us know if your club or organization is looking for a program and we'll make the connection!

Rotary launches a new strategic partnership with the Institute for Economics and Peace

What do we mean when we talk about peace? Is it possible to measure peacefulness? What conditions foster peace, and how can Rotary help create them?

Rotary is addressing those questions and forming a strategic partnership with the , a leader in the study of peace and conflict.

The institute has pioneered a conceptual framework for , which identifies and measures the attitudes, institutions, and structures that create and sustain peaceful societies. They include, for example, a sound business environment, a well-functioning government, and the free flow of information.

Through this partnership, Rotary will work with the institute to create:

  • An online learning platform, with webinars and interactive tools, that Rotary members and Rotary Peace Fellows can use to build on their expertise. It will teach them how to apply new peacebuilding methods and mobilize communities to address the issues behind conflicts.
  • Positive peace workshops, funded by global grants and hosted by Rotary clubs around the world, to provide training in the framework of positive peace. The goal is to foster community-based projects in peace and conflict resolution that are both practical and meaningful.

This partnership will enable Rotary members, peace fellows, and others to design and execute stronger peace projects and promote peace more broadly, which is crucial to meeting our humanitarian objectives in every community.
